HAND IN HAND WE REACH OUR GOALS

HAHANDND IN HAND, WE REACH OUR GOALS

Welcome back to the 2009-10 school year. The first day of school for Kindergarten to fifth grade and Early Childhood Hearing Impaired is Wednesday, August 19th. The first day for ExCite students is Monday, August 24th. We hope your family had a safe, active summer and that your children are ready to return for another great year. Setting learning and behaviors goals and working together; students, teachers and parents, to reach those goals will be the Prescott School focus.

OPEN HOUSE

Monday, August 17th come to Prescott for the PTO Ice Cream Social from 6:30 7:30 p.m. on Monday, August 17th and visit your classroom and meet your teacher. Class lists will be posted by the classrooms. Teachers will have paperwork for you to complete.

FRIDAY FOLDERS

This year, folders will be sent home on FRIDAY. The first FRIDAY FOLDER will contain a Prescott Calendar/Student Handbook. Expect to see the folder every Friday with important information in it. Thank you for taking the time to look at the materials and returning the folder on Monday.

EARLY DISMISSAL

School will dismiss an hour early 2:38 p.m. the first three days of school, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Tuesday, August 25th, will also be an early dismissal day at 2:18 p.m. in order for Prescott staff to work in their Professional Learning Communities.

CURRICULUM NIGHT

Tuesday, August 25th, 6:30 7:30 p.m. is another opportunity for you to meet and talk with your child’s teacher and learn about the new grade level. At Curriculum Night you will receive a list of the most important things your child will learn in math and reading at your child’s grade level and what you can do to support that learning.

Our goal this year is to “increase academic achievement for each Prescott student through effective teaching and learning”. We look forward to working in partnership with your family to provide a productive, memorable school year.

TRAFFIC PLAN

In order to ensure a safe arrival and dismissal at Prescott we need your cooperation by following the traffic plan below:

  • Whenever you are dropping off or picking up your child on Harwood Street, always drive WEST from 22nd Street to 20th Street.
  • When dropping off or picking up students in front of the school on 20th Street, cars need to be on the east side of the street heading north.

If these directions are followed, children will always exit on the right side of the car and will not have to cross the street. Students and adults will always be expected to use the crosswalks and students will not be allowed to cross in the middle of the street to enter a car.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING US MAKE PRESCOTT A SAFE PLACE TO LEARN.

BUILDING INTERVENTION SUPPORT TEAM B.I.S.T.

B.I.S.T.is a school-wide behavior management plan that increases student learning time, stops disruptive/hurtful behavior, and teaches skills that will lead to life success.

Prescott Staff will partner with your child to develop skills to reach these goals.

B.I.S.T. helps students work on these life goals:

* I can take good care of myself, even if I am mad.

* I can be productive and follow directions even if I don’t want to.

* I can be okay when others are not okay.
