Calling Prescott Community’s Peer Models

We are looking for two peer models for our

Hearing Impaired Preschool classroom for the

2009-2010 school year.

This wonderful opportunity would provide your little one with the chance to be a speech or language

model. Develop an understanding of acceptance and community. Foster friendships, and begin building a solid foundation of pre-academic skills.

We are hoping to find models for our A.M. session: 8:15 11:03.

Transportation can be provided if within Prescott boundaries.

If you have questions or would like to know more,

please contact the Prescott office at 436-1161.

There is a short application process, and peers

will be chosen based on best matches with our

LPS Web Site Adds Weekly

Student Illness Report

A new feature on the Lincoln Public Schools Web site offers a weekly Illness Report on student absences in the School District.

The Web report offers an average overall percentage of absences each week reported in the entire School District due to illness. You can also find the percentage of absences for the individual elementary, middle and high schools in the School District.

LPS Health Services reports the percentage of students not in attendance due to illness every Wednesday. Any location with more than 10 percent of the population out of school, due to illness, is reported to the Lancaster County Health Department to help them in assessing local illness.

To find the Illness Report, go the LPS Web site at www.lps.org, and click on Parent Center from the top row of tabs.
For more information contact Judy Zabel, LPS Health Services, 436-1655.

HEALTHY SCHOOLS

Did you know about the LPS Beverage and Vending Guidelines? The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, along with Coca-Cola, Pepsi and other beverage companies has developed guidelines for beverages in schools. This action supports lower calories and more nutritious beverages for elementary schools. We may only serve or provide the following at school or school events:

  • Bottled water
  • Up to 8 ounce servings of milk and 100% juice
  • Low fat and non-fat regular and flavored milk with up to 150 calories/8ozs.
  • 100% juice with no added sweeteners and up to 120 calories/8 ozs.

Did you know about the Competitive Food Policy? The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) and LPS Board Policy Number 5505 state:

No food or beverages can be sold or given to children anywhere on school premises beginning one half hour before breakfast and/or lunch service until on half hour after meal service unless all proceeds earned during these time periods go to the school nutrition program.

This policy also pertains to classroom pizza parties, candy sales, cookies sales or any feeding of students that is not part of our school nutrition program.

1st QUARTER REPORT CARDS

First quarter report cards go home today. The report card results for your child are based on a rubric or standard of performance at each grade level. Staff has taken extra time to include comments that are specific to your child’s effort or achievement. Be sure to use this document as an opportunity to talk with your child about school, what they are doing well, what they need to work on and what goals they are setting for this next quarter. Thank you for your support and involvement.

PRESCOTT OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROJECT

Our School Neighborhood Advisory Committee are actively involved in collecting input from students, staff, parents and the community on the playground project at Prescott. Meetings have been held last week and this week with stakeholders in order to gather input and ideas. The next step is for the committee to work with Dimensions @ First Plymouth Church to develop a design plan. We intend to keep everyone informed and involved as we continue with this exciting project.

Prescott's School Neighborhood Advisory Committee (SNAC) is exploring the possibility of creating outdoor learning and community spaces for the school and community. We are inviting residents in the Prescott community including the Near South, Irvingdale and Country Club neighborhoods to provide their ideas for this outdoor space project. Please click on the link below to participate in a survey that will allow you to provide your thoughts.
